Creating an emerald set cross pendant

This case study brings together so many different craft skills with modern technology; hand drawn designs, the stone polisher, CAD designer, stone setter and polisher. A bespoke jewel requires a great number of skills to create the perfect outcome.

The starting point

2 full set eternity rings set with emeralds and rubies, which were unset so they could be carefully appraised.

Cross design options

Emerald layout

As can be seen the emeralds are all different sizes and shapes, to make the design each stone was repolished and trimmed to produce a consistent dimension for the design.

CAD file

We decided the best approach would be to complete the making using CAD technology, here we show an example CAD file.
