A very individual engagement ring

We were given quite a specific brief by our client, the cluster to replicate the intendeds eyes whilst acknowledging the importance of her four legged friend, Ruby.

Given the brief, we set about designing his bespoke engagement ring.

Design drawing

Picking up on the requirements, we needed to design a ‘halo’ cluster, but given the lifestyle keep the finished ring as close to the finger as possible. Tucked away under the cluster we positioned a small ruby thus satisfying that all important aspect.

Loose white and yellow diamonds

Stone selection

We sourced 2 diamonds of differing qualities along with yellow diamonds of different sizes to allow an educated proportion judgement to be made, opting for the smaller yellow stones.

Making an engagement ring

The mounter’s work 1

The platinum under basket has been pierced out from sheet and is shaped up using the forming hammer and block.

The mounter’s work 2

The shaped basket and halo mount need to be heated to red hot to allow solder flow flow and join the 2 parts together.

Diamond mount ready for setting

The mounter’s work 3

The mount for the central diamond is fabricated separately and carefully measured to ensure the diamond fits and sits as low as possible.

Stones set

Once the mounter has finished his work, the mounts go to the stone setter who securely sets the stones. Notice the ruby has been set into a small tubular mounting.

Making a ring polishing

Polishing

Often forgotten but once the mounter and setter have completed their fantastic work, it is the polisher who brings the metal to life.
